Countries levying highest income tax

The infographic sheds the light on selected OECD countries with the highest income tax level in 2017, where Germany emerged as the highest and Mexico as the lowest.

The calculation encompasses income tax and social security contributions paid by workers after stripping out family benefits as a share of gross wages.

Germany got the highest level of income tax and social security contributions together at 39.9 percent, followed by Italy with 31.2 percent.

However, by focusing on income tax only, the U.S. and Greece were in the first spot with 18.4 percent.
