Who will be BOE Carney’s successor?

While there is still around one year left until selecting a new Bank of England Governor after the current one Mark Carney, speculations are increasing that the next Governor could be one of the current monetary policy committee members.

BOE Deputy Ben Broadbent, chief economic Andy Haldane, Deputy Governor Jon Cunliffe and Deputy Governor Dave Ramsden all got high scores to fill the job in June 2019, but chief of the Financial Conduct Authority Andrew Bailey got the highest score, with 63 points out of 100.

Bailey held several roles at the central bank including, deputy governor, chief cashier and CEO of the Prudential Regulatory Authority, which boosted his chances compared to other contenders.

Regarding outsiders of the BOE, perhaps the best candidate is Ex-Governor of the Reserve Bank of India Raghuram Rajan.
